Drawing upon their successful implementation from the Port
Authority’s Traffic Safety Improvement Program (TSIP), the
presentation will shed light on a comprehensive approach to
improving traffic safety by delivering engineering improvements,
increasing driver education, and utilizing targeted police
enforcement. The Port Authority's TSIP continues to meet its
goal
of providing a safe and efficient roadway network by minimizing
the
frequency, severity, and risk of motor vehicle crashes at all
facilities.
Over a span of 10 years from 2000 to 2009, the total number of
traffic crashes on roadways at Port Authority facilities
decreased by
38 percent whereas the overall crash rate also went down by an
average of 43 percent.
